Scenario
Application scenario
Powered-tailgate triggers need to detect a foot or defined zone within limited body space. LiDAR supplies distance or trigger input; actuation, authorization, anti-pinch logic, and vehicle safety remain body-system responsibilities.
Engineering problem
- Body geometry, ground clearance, and mounting angle constrain the trigger zone.
- Shoes, pavement, water, contamination, and light affect measurements.
- The gesture must be separated from passers-by, static objects, and invalid data.
Why LiDAR
A compact LiDAR provides continuous distance change so the controller can define zones, duration, and debounce rules.
Workflow
- Define the trigger zone, gesture, response time, and fault handling.
- Mount with clear line of sight and calibrate the body reference.
- Implement thresholds, duration, debounce, and authorization in the body controller.
- Validate shoes, pavement, weather, contamination, and false-trigger cases.
