Scenario
Application scenario
Liquid level sensing converts sensor-to-surface distance into vessel level. Surface reflectivity, transparency, motion, vapor, contamination, and mounting angle affect returns and must be validated for the liquid and vessel.
Engineering problem
- Transparent, dark, foaming, or moving surfaces can return differently.
- Vapor, condensation, contamination, and tilt change the measurement path.
- Distance-to-level conversion needs a known mounting datum and vessel geometry.
Why LiDAR
LiDAR provides non-contact distance for a controller to convert from a mounting datum into level; media fit and alarm logic still require field validation.
Workflow
- Define the liquid, surface state, vessel height, and measurement envelope.
- Choose an unobstructed mounting point and record the sensor datum.
- Implement distance-to-level conversion, filtering, and invalid-data handling.
- Validate empty, full, moving, vapor, and contamination conditions.
